I am a trial attorney who graduated from Florida State University and received my Juris Doctorate from Nova Southeastern University. As a former Assistant Public Defender, I was the Lead Trial Attorney in the Felony Domestic Violence Unit assigned to Judge Cohen's division. As the lead trial attorney, I handled thousands of violent first, second, and third degree felonies while in the division.
Did You Know ...
- There is no spousal/communications privilege if a crime is committed between the spouses.
- A victim cannot dismiss the charges by signing a waiver of prosecution.
- If you plead guilty/no contest or are adjudicated guilty after trial, you CANNOT get a domestic violence record sealed.
- If the State Attorney declines to prosecute or dismisses the case, you may be eligible to get your record expunged if you have no prior criminal adjudications.
- A violation of a no contact order when it is a condition of your bond is a misdemeanor offense.
- The court can revoke your bond if you violate your no contact order.
- A third conviction for battery is an enhanceable felony offense punishable bya 5-year maximum prison sentence.
